Wapello Land & Water Reserve

Field Museum Bio-Blitz will be June 22nd & 23rd.  Renowned scientists are headed to the Wapello Land & Water Reserve to conduct the first ever Bio-Blitz (24 hour inventory on the preserve).  This inventory will include birds, plants, insects, river species and more. You are invited to come out for a tour to see the scientists in action.  There will be a Night Hike on the 22nd that will begin at 8:30 pm & Prairie Hikes on the 23rd at 10 am and 1 pm.  Information gathered at this Bio-Blitz will be used to create identification guides of the common species as well as provide information to an interactive permanent exhibit at the Field Museum called Restoring Earth.  Bio-Blitz Sponsors:  The Chicago Field Museum, Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, Illinois Ornithological Society, and the Friends of the Hanover Land & Archeological Reserve.

Community Dinner will be July 27th at 5 pm.  This free event will be held at Rocky Waters Vineyard, Hanover.  On July 27th the Field Museum scientists will return with their findings from the Bio-Blitz and share them with the community.  Registration is required and seating is limited.  Please call 815-858-9100 to register.  Community Dinner Sponsors:  Hanover Chamber of Commerce, Rocky Waters Winery & Vineyard, and Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation.

Native American Prairie Day will be July 28th from 1 – 4 pm.  Held at the Wapello Land & Water Reserve at the South end of Hanover along Rte. 84.  There will be Free 30-minute tours, Atlatl throwing, Flute playing, Native American story-telling, Local Archeological collections, Face painting,  Arrowhead replicas will be given to all children.  The Chicago Field Museum will be hosting an exhibit at the event that will focus on Native Americans.  With thousands of wildflowers in full bloom on the prairie, make sure to mark you calendar for this one of a kind event!  Prairie Day Sponsors:  Field Museum and the Friends of the Hanover Land & Archeological Reserve.
